The Modular Laundry Unit emerged from a research project, which required an in-depth understanding of human interaction with the assigned topic, ‘washing and drying machines’. Collaborative research analysed the entire process of doing laundry, which identified recurring pain points amongst users.

The research findings helped to guide a design outcome, which catered to those who need accessibility and adaptability in small or unique homes. The design aimed to minimise strain caused by unnatural bodily movement when processing laundry in small areas. Repositioning the washing and drying machine to a comfortable reach reduced this strain and created a fluid laundry space for users to work around. The modular design allows cabinets to be added, replaced or removed, therefore adapting with individual homes.
